SYM Shark

Introduction

The SYM motorcycles in Vietnam gained popularity for its innovative styling models and good service backup. In the scooter segment, is has introduced a variety of designs with good performance parameters. The line-up includes Atilla-V, Elegant, Elegant 110, Venus and others. In Shark model, it has featured unique styling features of body contours and special design of the seat. This model is available in a single variant with three colour options of brown, grey and silver.

Design

This is a stylish scooter with a lot of contours on the body panel, stylish indicators and tail lamp design. The dual straight seat is given smooth flow with pillion passenger position at the comparatively higher position and the rider seat portion given smooth styling which could be supportive for the lower back of the rider. The leg space between seat and handlebar and the design of handlebar with fine hand grip gives best of balanced ride quality. The dimensions include 2090mm X 720mm X 1160mm (Length X Width X Height), kerb weight 160Kg and ground clearance 125mm, the comparatively lower ground clearance allows for stability of the scooter at high speeds.

Engine, Economy & Performance

The SYM has used 125cc single cylinder air cooled engine in this model delivering the power of 7.3hp at 8000rpm and Torque of 12.3Nm at 6500rpm. The fuel injection system used for efficient combustion of fuel and the drive is connected to the rear wheel through variable speed transmission. The smooth acceleration of the engine result in a steady increase of speed and it can reach a maximum speed of 100kmph on standard road conditions. In city road conditions one can expect a mileage of around 50kmpl and it can increase up to 55kmpl in highway road conditions.

Handling

The dynamics of the scooters is designed for best of speed and stability over highway riding conditions and the lower ground clearance is a limitation which indicate the need of bit extra caution while riding on city road and country road conditions with road humps and hollows to avoid underbody hits. The tyres with rating 110/90 R10 used for both wheels built to lost long and offer best of road grip too. The comparatively higher positioning of the pillion rider portion looks good and can add to stable riding in straight ahead road conditions and one calls for complete slowdown while taking sharp turns.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

The sturdy build quality and best of body dynamics enable for steady riding over varying road conditions and ride quality is further improved with strong suspensions system with a telescopic shock absorber at the front and dual hydraulic shock absorber with torsion spring at the rear. The brake system involves disc brakes at both front and rear wheel fitted onto the stylish and strong alloy wheels. The storage space under the seat can be handy for storing helmet, a handbag and other items adds to the convenience of the user.
